Japan: the first travelogue 2010 – 2011

Japan – a land on the other side of the world. For a long time I had planned the journey but been too timid to go. In October 2010 the plan came true. The impressions were too strong to keep to myself and became the reason for a book and an exhibition.

Silence. The entirely unknown language blocks the usual overflow of information and turns all written signs into abstract works of art. Intuition starts to rule my actions.

Wilderness needs no translation, makes me feel more secure. The strong presence of nature’s timelessness brings relief and content.

A tiny white butterfly, dead upon the stairs of a closed shrine, becomes the symbol of the beginning and the end, and of the new beginning.
